Open-Source Obot MCP Gateway for secure MCP server management
The Obot MCP Gateway is a free, open-source solution designed to help IT organisations securely manage and scale the adoption of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. As MCPs become the standard for AI agents interfacing with real-world systems, the absence of a control layer poses risks such as shadow infrastructure, data exposure, and fragmented adoption. Sheng Liang, CEO of Acorn Labs, emphasises that while MCP servers serve as the connective tissue between AI and enterprises, they can lead to chaos without proper governance. The Obot MCP Gateway provides IT with the necessary controls while granting users the access they need, enabling AI to drive significant business impact at scale.
The Obot MCP Gateway features an administrative control plane that allows IT to onboard, manage, and update MCP servers, define access policies, and monitor usage through a modern user interface or GitOps. It also supports MCP hosting and proxying, enabling organisations to host their own MCP servers or securely access third-party ones with full audit and routing control. Additionally, employees benefit from a self-service catalog of approved MCP servers, complete with documentation and support. Instant connection URLs facilitate direct connections to tools like Claude Desktop, Cursor, VSCode, enterprise chat clients, or custom agents. The Obot MCP Gateway is available for free on GitHub.
